Moremi Game Reserve – Boat Cruise to Chief’s Island

After breakfast, check out and board the boat to Chief’s Camp, situate on Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve.

Wildlife and wilderness are as abundant as action and adrenaline and refinement and relaxation at this remarkable remodelled luxury camp. Personal service, an extraordinary setting, exceptional viewing and enthusiastic expert guides are the hallmarks of a Sanctuary Retreats experience – here at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp we promise a unique attention to detail and strong environmental and philanthropic credentials to ensure the ultimate luxury safari experience.

The 10 air-conditioned bush pavilions and luxury suites each feature a private dining area, a tranquil outside seating area and a terrace pool – all perfect for absorbing the surrounding plains and majestic African skies. The bathrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and folding glass doors leading to outdoor showers and generous tubs are perfect for long, indulgent soaks.

After check-in, enjoy a late lunch or afternoon tea before departing on your first afternoon game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve. The game viewing opportunities at Sanctuary Chief's Camp are awe-inspiring. On the plains one may find the roaming lions that prey on the thousands of antelope, zebra and buffalo who live here all year round. There are also healthy populations of wild dog. There are several local lion prides and leopards, genet cats and hyena are in abundance.

Your afternoon game drive ends with classic sundowner cocktails and canapés at a specially selected spot. There are few things as spectacular as the sight of an African sunset, especially if you are also lucky enough to hear the call of a fish eagle, as yet another day comes to an end. Return to the camp for pre-dinner drinks around the boma area as you discuss the sightings of the day with friends and family.

6
Day 6

Moremi Game Reserve – Game Drives and Mokoro

Today you will spend a full day exploring all the sights and sounds of the Moremi Game Reserve. Daily activities include morning and afternoon game drives and mokoro excursions.

The morning may be spent on a game drive. Our professional guides show the bush from a different perspective, up close and personal with the environment.

Your afternoon activity might include a poled mokoro excursion along the narrow Delta channels. Sit back and relax as you glide through lily ponds in local dugout canoes, cruising past a pod of hippos as they lie in a pool. Fish eagles, frogs, lilies and the quietness and gentle pace form much of this experience.

7
Day 7

Cruise to Stanley’s Camp

After your last morning safari activity and breakfast, check out and board your boat. Cruise further into the Okavango Delta and arrive at Stanley’s Camp.

Set among ebony and sausage trees, Stanley’s Camp is located on a 26000- acre private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. A classic tented camp located on a private concession in the Okavango Delta, Sanctuary Stanley's Camp offers a varied game viewing experience as well as a unique Living with Elephants activity.

This traditional safari camp has a large lounge area and dining area with incredible views over the floodplains in front of camp. The main area features a bar from where refreshing drinks are always served with a smile, a small library area and curio shop. From the swimming pool - a real treat after a hot day of game viewing - guests can watch giraffe and other plains game march across the savannah and sometimes catch a glimpse of rare wild dogs.

The intimate camp features only ten safari canvas tents, each individually designed. Each tent has a large wooden deck providing private areas where you can relax while soaking in the surrounding sights and sounds or enjoy cocktails, before dinner is served in the spectacular dining mess.

On arrival, check in and enjoy a late lunch or afternoon tea, followed by your first afternoon game-viewing activity. You have a choice of a game drive, walking safari or mokoro excursion (water-level dependent).

8
Day 8

Living with Elephants Excursion

After breakfast, you will depart on a unique Living with Elephants excursion.

Low volumes of visitors are given the rare opportunity to visit elephants Jabu and Morula in the heart of the Okavango Delta. During their walk with the elephants, guests witness private moments as they forage, mud wallow and amble through the bush. This is an intimate and highly educational bush walk where you will learn about the status of the African Elephant, their role in the ecosystem and conservation in general.

Doug and Sandi are renowned specialists in elephant biology, ecosystems and natural history. Having lived intimately with their herd in Botswana for three decades, they are your perfect guides for a “day in the life of the African Elephant” and help you connect to elephants and their environment.

An exclusive bush brunch will be served after this activity.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure and later in the afternoon you will depart on your scheduled water- or land-based game-viewing activity before returning after sunset for dinner.

9
Day 9

Maun - Farewell to Botswana

After your last morning safari activity and breakfast, check out and make your way back to Maun either by boat or charter flight. A boat transfer is dependent on water levels.

Okavango Delta

A maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife, Botswana’s Okavango Delta lies like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Known as “the river that never finds the sea”, crystal clear channels spread over the thirst lands of the Kalahari with their papyrus-fringed banks and fertile floating islands. Adapted for a life in and out of water, the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga antelope are found in this watery wilderness. Lion, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog share the floodplains with large herds of elephant and buffalo.

Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve can be found in the eastern section of the Okavango Delta and is an excellent safari destination. The Reserve is one of the most spectacular wildlife conservancies in Botswana, where an abundance of wildlife moves around freely. The unique landscape features a unique mix of dry ecosystems as well as wetlands. Among the roamers of the bush are the Big Five, but this is also a hotspot for a profusion of unique bird species.
