Proclaimed in 1926, Kruger National Park is South Africa’s largest game reserve, extending 360 km (220 miles) from north to south and 65 km (40 miles) from east to west. Regarded as one of the largest national parks in the world, all of the Big Five are found in the Kruger National Park but it also boasts more species of large mammals than any other African game reserve. Iconic African wildlife species that can be seen here include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as the endangered African wild dog and cheetah. Antelope species like giraffe, zebra, impala and wildebeest are also very common here. Keen birders can sight up to 517 species here, including resident and migrant species.

The Kruger National Park contains twelve main rest camps, as well as several smaller camps scattered throughout the park. The largest rest camp, which also serves as the headquarters for Kruger, is Skukuza Camp. Safari accommodation options range from tents to large guesthouses, with most units built in the iconic thatched style. All the main rest camps offer at least a shop and restaurant for both self-catering and non-self-catering guests. Within the Park there are also several private concessions with private luxury lodges, offering all-inclusive luxury accommodation.
