Half A Dozen ‘Must Sees’ When Visiting Cape Town

It is South Africa’s (and one of Africa’s) premier tourist destinations – a sprawling city that offers the best of everything in one place. From beaches to boat trips, a World wonder to wine tours, spectacular drives to sublime views and city life to culinary delights – this is a World in one. It is Cape Town, South Africa’s ‘Mother city’ …and one of the most sought after destinations on the Globe!

There is much to see and do, but we wanted to pinpoint a few absolute highlights to make sure your luxury guided tour includes them all. Fortunately experienced tour operators like Jewel of Africa have worked out a magnificent 4 day Cape Town tour that includes all these half a dozen ‘have to do’s when visiting Cape Town … Table Mountain – It is one of the ‘Wonders of the World’ and the focal point of Cape Town. The summit can be reached in 2 ways – the easy way, with a spectacular cable car lift – or the hard way, with a hike to the top. This is a taxing, but popular hike and either way the view from the top is breathtaking and encompasses the whole of Cape Town and much of the peninsula.

A Houtbay Boat Cruise to Duiker Island – Houtbay is a beautiful fishing area where the wildlife of the sea and its shores abound. Embark on a 45-minute boat trip to Duiker Island and you can visit a huge Seal colony. You can get within almost touching distance of these thousands of ‘fun to watch’ creatures, feeding and playing in the stunning turquoise waters.

Chapman’s Peak Drive – This is arguably the most scenic drive in the world! It is also one of the most exhilarating, as the road hugs the near-vertical face of Chapman’s Peak, from the areas of Houtbay to Noordhoek. Regarded as a major feet of engineering, the road at Chapman’s Peak was chiselled into the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922.

Cape Point – This same road leads to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point, the southernmost tip of Africa. Here where two oceans meet, the stormy waters of the Atlantic are calmed by the Indian Ocean. We spend some time in the nature reserve and stand on this geographical landmark, Cape Point. On return to Cape Town a visit is made to Boulders Beach, an ideal vantage point to watch a local colony of African penguins.

The Cape Winelands – The Cape peninsula offers some of the most spectacular wine farm viewing and visitations in the World. The tour begins in the quaint town of Franschhoek, where the French Huguenots brought their knowledge of viticulture and (upon receiving land from the Dutch East India Company) established their farms and began producing some of the world’s finest wines. On to Stellenbosch, the ‘City of Oaks’, which Simon van der Stel founded in 1679. The second oldest town in South Africa, it is home to some of the finest private and commercial wineries. A day of tasting, buying and taking in a ploughman’s lunch, is something to remember.

The V&A Waterfront – Abuzz with trendy shops and a range of restaurants to suit every culinary preference, the V & A Waterfront, overlooking Cape Town harbour, is another must do. Here you can let your hair down and dance to the music at popular night spots – or just have a chilled lunch watching the ships come in, whilst the kids enjoy a whole range of popular activities. We hope these half a dozen ‘have to do’s when visiting Cape Town will make your Cape experience an unforgettable one. Remember we, as preferred Cape tour operators also arrange bespoke packages to suit every pocket and preference. We can extend the tour to take in Robben Island or even a trip to watch Whales between June and December. Contact us to find out more and to book today!
