African Gorilla Trekking Safari Experience
Travel to Bwindi Forest National Park in Uganda for an exclusive and unforgettable gorilla trekking safari allowing you to get close to these majestic, now-endangered creatures.
Explore the Misty Forested Mountains of Bwindi
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda on the rim of the Rift Valley. The mist-covered hillsides are sheltered by an ancient and biologically diverse rainforest comprising about 400 plant species. The word “Bwindi” means “darkness” and taking a hike in this magnificent forest will reveal why. In addition to the mountain gorillas there are 346 bird species and more than 200 butterfly species, about 324 tree species – 10 of which are only found in this area in the whole of Uganda. Bwindi is prime habitat for more than half the world’s population of mountain gorillas.
Meet the Rare Mountain Gorillas
Follow rangers into the forest and track a family of gorillas. This could involve hiking deep into the forest, along slippery terrain for up to three hours or longer. Once located, the gorillas will likely leave you more breathless than the hike itself. Spend up to an hour with the gorillas and get your once in a lifetime photographs.
Support Local Conservation to Save the Species
Every permit sold for a gorilla trek adds much-needed funds to local conservation initiatives striving to protect this species. Part of the revenue from your gorilla permit is used to pay the salaries of game and park rangers, guards and tour guides, many of whom had no economic opportunities previously. By providing an alternative income, locals are deterred from engaging in poaching and anti-conservation activities. Over the past 20 years, tourism has been the most successful means of protecting gorillas in Uganda. Tourism has created jobs and generates direct revenue from the sale of goods and services such as guiding, transportation, and more.
