The Majestic Bwindi Forest National Park!
If you’re planning a Uganda private tour, you won’t want to miss out on a chance to see the world's largest population of mountain gorillas at the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is in the southwestern corner of Uganda and is a must-see for any nature lover.
Bwindi Forest National Park
The Impenetrable Forest is around about 60 kilometers from the nearest city, Kabarole. The exact location of this UNESCO site is 0 degrees, 30 minutes North latitude, and 30 degrees, 30 minutes East longitude. The Bwindi Forest is a tropical rainforest with a very high level of biodiversity, which is why it is so special – the choice for many couples who choose something different for their Uganda honeymoon packages.
The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to one of the largest populations of African primates, including the critically endangered mountain gorilla. It also contains many other species of flora and fauna, including tree species that are very old and endemic to the area. The forest was named the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest because it is so thick that the old explorers could not get through it.. This canopy makes it almost impossible to see through the leaves to the ground below.
The forest also boasts some beautiful waterfalls, including the Victoria Nile and Lake Mutanda, one of the largest lakes in Uganda. You can also see the beautiful cliffs surrounding the Nile River, which runs through the forest. The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest also boasts the world’s highest recorded number of butterflies. There are over 1,500 species of butterflies in the forest, with a new species being discovered there every two weeks! There is also a wide variety of primates in the Bwindi Forest.
The Gorillas of Bwindi
The mountain gorillas of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest are critically endangered. Only about 880 of these amazing primates live in the Bwindi Forest. They are so rare that they have been declared World Heritage Species. The Bwindi Forest was turned into a national park in 1994 to protect these animals and your luxury Uganda safari is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see them in the flesh. The park is managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and it is home to about half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. Mountain gorillas are extremely special because they are one of rare primates that can be observed in their natural habitat.
