Upon arrival at Windhoek Airport, you will be welcomed by your Jewel of Africa Safaris tour guide. From the airport, we make our way to Windhoek where your guide will give you an orientation tour of the city. After the tour, your guide will transfer you to your nearby lodge.
Set in the stunning African savannah, the award-winning, beautiful N/a’an ku sê (Naankuse) Lodge in Namibia offers an experience that you’ll never forget. Located amongst camel thorn trees, riverbeds, and a stone canyon, the Naankuse Lodge is perfectly situated to start or finish your trip to Namibia. With a range of enjoyable activities available, including carnivore feeding tours, and cheetah walks, you are sure to enjoy an unforgettable African stay here.
Check-in and freshen up and enjoy a sundowner drink at the bar. At dinner time, you will be spoiled with mouth-watering African cuisine, while discussing all the exciting sightings that await you during the rest of your trip.
An early morning breakfast will be followed by a carnivore feeding tour at the lodge. During the course of this drive you will visit the senior baboons, caracals, lions, cheetahs, African wild dogs and leopards. Watch them being fed by the experienced guides and listen to their stories. The scenic route that takes you to the carnivores lends the opportunity of spotting some of the free-roaming reserve animals. This is not just a great way to learn about these amazing animals, it is also a unique up close photographic opportunity.
After this we take a four-hour drive to Sossusvlei situated in the Namib Desert – the oldest desert in the world!
This is a land where ultimate beauty awaits you; endless sandy plains and dunes, where life and death lives close together with the wind and fog as main actors.
We stay two nights in this unusual setting. Enjoy a brilliant buffet dinner under a star-studded sky, with an array of food and wine you could only imagine!
A very early morning wake-call for some coffee and tea before we explore the Namib desert in an open 4x4 vehicle with your specially trained guide who will share with you all his knowledge of the area, fauna and flora and much more.
We will try to reach the sand dunes as the sun rises. We will stop at Dune 45, a 300-meter-high sand dune and the most photographed dune in the world. Sossusvlei is a mud pan surrounded by red dunes and runs from north to south thus giving you the perfect opportunity to photograph these dunes as soon as the sun rises.
We continue our journey to Deadvlei where we will enjoy breakfast at the foot of one of the highest sand dunes in the area and after breakfast, it’s time to explore the beauty of the sand dunes on foot. On our way, back to the lodge, we do one more stop at the Sesriem Canyon where the Tsauchab River has shaped the Canyon over millions of years.
Back at the lodge, you can relax in the afternoon, in the lodge.
After breakfast, we travel northwest to Swakopmund. But first, we head over to the local fuel station to fill up on petrol and to stock up on supplies. Its owner, Moose, bakes mouth-watering Dutch apple pies. They’re too tasty to pass up, so we will make sure to have a piece (or more) during our trip to Swakopmund.
Our travels take us straight through an incredible interesting empty, barren wasteland until we reach the coastal town of Swakop. The landscape has such an unearthly quality and is almost what you would expect to see on the moon. In the afternoon, we arrive in Swakopmund - mouth of the Swakop river. This elegant, charming and friendly city with its broad avenues was founded by German settlers - a little piece of Hamburg at the edge of the desert.
Spend the rest of the evening at leisure to explore this Jewel of the Desert and go for dinner of one of the many excellent restaurants that this beautiful town has to offer.
Today you will be part of one of the most spectacular experiences on this whole tour. Tommy’s Living Desert Tour makes for a jaw-dropping excursion. He will show you a barren piece of desert right in front of you. You will not see 1 living creature, but to your amazement, Tommy will dig out over 25 species of geckos, spiders, snakes, chameleons, legless lizards and many more.
Tommy will show us how plants and small animals survive the unforgiving desert climate, and how they attain water for life. He will also explain the reason for the variety of dune colors and at the end of the tour, you will experience a 'roaring' dune if the weather plays along. This is an experience not to be missed!
The tour starts at 08h00 and will finish by 13h00. The rest of the day is spent at leisure and you will have the opportunity to partake in activities on offer in the area at your own expense.
Depart after breakfast to Walvis Bay harbor for an exciting catamaran trip in the protected lagoon area of Walvis Bay, where the water is calm and abundant with bird life. Experience the thrill of dolphins leaping out of the water alongside the boat, seals that board the boat, fresh oysters and cold champagne on the calm waters of the Walvis Bay lagoon.
This tour is very popular with visitors to the coast, as it shows them an important nesting area for shorebirds that the average visitor doesn’t have access to.
We return to Swakopmund and spend our last night in this beautiful coastal town.
After breakfast, we make our way to Etosha National Park. We check in at the famous Okaukuejo Resort at around lunch time and relax before your first sunset safari with your guide inside Etosha National Park in your private closed air-conditioned vehicle.
The Park is world renowned for its spectacular wildlife: elephant, black and white rhinoceros, lions, leopards, cheetahs, large herds of springbok, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and a multitude of other fascinating species, big and small, interacting in their natural environment.
We return in the late afternoon where there will be enough time to freshen up before dinner is served. As night approaches, head off to the Okaukuejo watering hole, where wildlife congregates in masses for a respite from the dry season. This is a haven for photographers, and you will be able to spend the rest of your evening here.
After breakfast, you will depart on a 3-hour morning safari in open 4x4 vehicle to explore the Etosha National Park. Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s renowned wildlife areas. A massive silver-white salt pan that can be seen from space is bordered by vast grassy plains, semi-arid savannah and thorn scrub. Etosha is home to more than 100 species of mammals and the park is celebrated as the home of the largest and perhaps the most stable population of the endangered black rhino in the world.
At midday, we will exit the Park and make our way to Toshari Lodge, located south of the Park. On arrival, check in, relax and freshen up before departing for your afternoon sunset safari in Etosha with open 4x4 vehicle. You will return after sunset and will enjoy pre-dinner drinks while discussing the beauty of this incredible place. Dinner will be served before retiring for the night.
Today you have three options:
Option 1: Full day safari in Open 4x4 Vehicle
Option 2: Full day safari with your guide in closed air-conditioned vehicle
Option 3: 4-hour Morning safari and a 4-hour evening safari in open vehicle
Etosha National Park is a haven for photographers and birders alike. The dry winter months are ideal for game viewing, whilst the wet summer months attract ample bird species that migrate here from different regions. The unique setting affords photographers the opportunity to fine-tune their aperture and shutter skills against the silvery-white mirage landscape of Etosha. The excess of lime and salt in the pan creates a bright environment that looks like a glimmering blanket of snow has covered the wide expanse of the desert.
We will return to the lodge late-afternoon, relax and freshen up before enjoying a scrumptious dinner next to a roaring fire while reminiscing about the day's sightings and best photographs of the day!
After breakfast, we make our way to Windhoek International Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg, remembering all too well the amazing experience you had the last 10 days!
You may leave Africa,
but Africa will never leave you!
