Travel in Africa is exciting and invigorating at pretty much anytime in most of its exceptional destinations. Sights and smells and an atmosphere unparalleled anywhere else in the world will leave you wanting more and returning many times. There are however certain times that certain places really shine and have so much more to offer, so we would like to maximise the enjoyment of your luxury African safari experience by pointing out a few preferential times to be in some of our magnificent safari and general sight-seeing destinations. Here then are 5 great times to be travelling in Africa…
NUMBER ONE – SPRING TO AUTUMN IN CAPE TOWN
This sprawling metropolis (said by many to be the most beautiful on the globe), nestled beneath the world’s most famous mountain, apart from offering spectacular scenery at any time of the year, offers all the excitement of the city, sunny beaches and wonderful wine tours. Wine thrives in a Mediterranean climate however and the vines need soaking winter rains, so winters here can be wet and windy. Spring in September and right through the summer to March or April is a fabulous time to be in this heavenly place, indulging in a luxurious South African guided tour.
NUMBER TWO – WINTER TO SPRING IN THE KRUGER PARK
Here where Southern Africa’s ‘big five’ – Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant – can be seen on a daily basis and the thrill of the hunt and chase can be witnessed under the guidance of our expert private guides, the summers can be very hot, so winter through to spring are the preferred times for personalised private safaris. At this time the young are being born and the vegetation is low, offering better sighting conditions.
NUMBER THREE – SPRING AND AUTUMN IN NAMIBIA
Spring, just before the very hot summer is a magnificent time to be in this ‘Jewel of the desert’. It is hauntingly beautiful and plays host to an array of some of the world’s finest private luxury safari destinations, like ‘Etosha’ a magnificent wildlife safari park which is best visited just before the summer rains fall. Autumn too is lovely following the rain, but still very hot.
NUMBER FOUR – WINTER AT VICTORIA FALLS
One of the eight wonders of the world, the ‘smoke that thunders’ is breathtakingly beautiful and not only a sight-seeing, but preferred luxury private safari destination too. Summers here from April to December are very hot and the water flow at its lowest. Even in spring the water can’t be seen from the Zambian side. Only in winter from May to August can these indescribable falls be seen from both Zambia and Zimbabwe, when the weather is temperate and the water flowing in full flood!
NUMBER FIVE – APRIL AND AUGUST IN EAST AFRICA
The migration of the herds from the Serengeti to Massai mara is something that every discerning wildlife lover should have on their ‘to do’ list. It is an exceptional experience and can only be seen in August as the massive wildlife migration starts in the Serengeti and in April when the herds return. In August thrilling Crocodile encounters are likely too when the waters are low!
