What to expect?
Your Jewel of Africa Safaris tour guide will meet you at Cape Town Airport or anywhere in Cape Town as you start your amazing adventure begins! The day will be devoted to exploring the City of Cape Town. Stops will include the Company’s Gardens, the Cape Town Castle, Signal Hill and Camps Bay. After time for lunch in Camps Bay, you will make your way to the top of Table Mountain with the cable car. From Table Mountain, spectacular views of the city, the Peninsula and Robben Island will leave you in awe.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner at one of the various excellent restaurants the V&A Waterfront has to offer. Please let your guide know where you would like to eat for him/her to make the reservations.
Depart after an early morning breakfast for Houtbay. Here you will embark on a 45-minute boat trip to Duiker Island to visit a huge seal colony. The extremely skilled skipper will guide the boat to almost touching distance of the thousands of seals feeding and playing in the stunning turquoise waters.
Leaving Houtbay behind, embark on a breath-taking drive, known as the Chapman's Peak Drive; arguably the most scenic drive in the world! This drive hugs the near-vertical face of Chapman's Peak, from Houtbay to Noordhoek. Cut into the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at that time regarded as a major feat of engineering.
The road leads to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point. In the nature reserve we visit Cape Point, where the stormy waters of the Atlantic are met by the calming influence of the Indian Ocean. On our way to Cape Town a visit is also made to Boulders Beach, an ideal vantage point to watch the local colony of African penguins.
We leave Cape Town behind and take a 40-minute drive to the Cape Winelands where we devote some time to exploring the town of Franschhoek. The French Huguenots brought their knowledge of viticulture with them and, upon receiving land from the Dutch East India Company; many vineyards were established and are today still producing some of the world's finest wines. After lunch, we will visit one of the local wine estates, where we will sample the fine wines they produce.
Simon van der Stel founded Stellenbosch in 1679; the second oldest town in South Africa. The town became known as "the City of Oaks" due to the large number of oak trees that were planted to line the streets. Spend some time to explore this gem before visiting one of the famous wine estates situated in the area.
We will visit a total of 3 wine estates before returning to Cape Town.
Excitement awaits as you board the flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit inside the Greater Kruger National Park. Here you will be met by your Jewel of Africa Safaris tour guide who will drive you to Phelwana Safari Lodge inside the Greater Kruger National Park a mere 30-min away.
On arrival at Phelwana Safari Lodge you have time to check in and freshen up before your guide will share with you some pointers on how to spot the wild animals in the bush and then you set off on your first bush-walk with your qualified ranger. Here you can expect to see giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and impala to name but a few.
Arriving back at camp as the sun is setting, imagine sipping a sundowner drink on the deck; looking at the amazing African sunset over the majestic Drakensberg Mountains before dinner is served. Enjoy a glass of superb South African wine with a cozy campfire in the background, while your guide points out the Southern Cross star constellation.
The day starts early as you depart on safari in the world-famous Kruger Park – where nothing is impossible! Your guide will tell you to expect the unexpected. The whole day is devoted inside the Kruger Park in an open 4x4 safari vehicle.
Explore this vast 2 million-hectare wildlife haven, roughly the size of Wales, in search of the Big Five today - Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino. Our guides are experts in showing you the hidden intricacies of the animal species, birds, trees, insects and all aspects of the fauna and flora. Enjoy breakfast and lunch at one of the many stopovers.
We return to camp as the sun goes down over the African Bush. Arriving back at camp, freshen up and enjoy some more of the world famous South African wines while reminiscing about the day’s amazing sightings before dinner is served.
You might have heard that South Africa is a world-in-one-country and today will bear witness to this as we depart after breakfast and to visit the breath-taking Panorama Route.
The Panorama route is a beautiful winding road situated on top of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains which is the longest and largest mountain range in South Africa.
- God’s Window is a beautiful viewpoint on the edge of the mountain range.
- Lisbon Waterfalls and the Berlin Waterfalls are two beautiful fall with an interesting history.
- The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world and the biggest all-green canyon in the world.
- Bourke's Luck Potholes is where two rivers meet and a truly spectacular sight!
We will enjoy lunch in the lovely little tourist town of Graskop at the famous Harries Pancakes and we will return to the camp before sunset.
We depart early today for the Manyeleti Private Game Reserve. This reserve is open to Kruger National Park, Timbavati Nature Reserve and the Sabi Sands Nature Reserve and has excellent animal viewing opportunities! This reserve is private and exclusive and only rangers in 4x4 vehicles may drive here and we have the opportunity to go off-road to get the perfect close-up picture!
We return to camp at around 11am for lunch and to relax before our second safari starts at 2pm. This is big 5 country so make sure your cameras are charged and at all times - expect the unexpected!
We will be back at camp at around 7pm and you will have the opportunity to freshen up before dinner is served!
We check out after breakfast and make our way to the nearby animal rehab center for a tour of the facility. These animals were rescued from the surrounding area and when the time is right they will be released back into the wild. You can expect to see cheetah, wild dog, leopard, rhino and lion to name but a few.
Once finished you will be transported back to Johannesburg remembering all too well the amazing experience you had the last 5 days!
