Mr. Johan Esterhuizen, the owner of one of the largest Super Spars in South Africa, has launched a community upliftment program called “Future Kings Chess4Life”. About 2000 children in 167 schools in a very poor community participate against one another and that is just the launch.

What is Future Kings Chess4Life all about?

Most of the children in the poor rural communities of Elim in the northern province of South Africa have to grow up without a father. This means that in many cases the breadwinner is absent, busy earning an income elsewhere. This unfortunately also means that the father figure and role model is often absent.

This reality led to creating the Future Kings Chess4Life identity which will represent a set of values. The values referred to will include those values that are established in particularly the formative years and should culminate into well balanced adults.

Schools are often overcrowded and together with various other realities this creates an environment and circumstances where learners often completes the traditional school curriculum yet lack the skills and values necessary to excel at tertiary institutions, the work environment or life in general.

This phenomenon often leads to learners being unable to capitalize on grant and bursary initiatives from the government and other institutions.

In general, rural environments offer little positive stimulation or access to any type of activity that is conducive to preparing children for adult life. It is reasonable to assume that in many cases even those individuals who have an above average potential often do not achieve their full potential or even perish in such circumstances by falling prey to criminal practices.

The Future Kings Chess4Life concept recognizes the destructive effect of the above forces and combines various elements and values to assist with confronting the elements that defeats the potential of particularly the youth in rural areas.
