The name of the country is derived from the Zambezi River. The country offers 19 national parks, the Victoria Falls - a must see as the sight will literally leave you staring in wonder. There are also 6 major lakes. For bird watching enthusiasts this is the place to go visit - to date 743 species of birds have been recognised in Zambia and it's national parks. The wildlife on offer includes all the species found on the African sub-continent, including the Big 5.

Western Zambia is dominated by the Kafue and Zambezi river systems. This results in seasonal flooding, and this area is rich in birds and animals.

The Luanga Valley near the eastern border is one of the best know widlife reserves of the continent.

Lusaka is located in the centre of the country and offers the main international airport and as such forms the hub from which travellers spread out over the vast distances to visit Zambia's wonderful destinations.

• You drive on the left side of the road. However, the road structure is bad. Maybe not such a good idea to get a rental car
