Corporate Incentive Travel Kenya

Situated in east Africa, Kenya is bordered by the Indian Ocean, Etiopia in the north, Somalia to the north-east, Uganda in the west, Sudan in the north-west, and Tansania in the south. The Kenyan capital city is Nairobi.

Mount Kenya is a significant landmark, the second highest mountain peak in Africa, and the country's name was derived from it. Kenya offers a multitude of national parks to make your every safari and game viewing dream come true!

Geography and climate

Mount Kenya with it's icy glaciers, towers above the Kenyan landscape at an awe inspiring 5,199 meters (17,057 ft). Kenya is the 47th largest county in the world.

The low plains along the Indian Ocean rise up to form the central highlands, which are bisected by the Great Rift Valley. The Great Rift Valley is a very fertile plateau in the east which makes this area one of Africa's most successful agricultural production regions in Africa.

Climate varies between arid in the inland regions to tropical along the coast. In summer - do bring along adequate protection against the fierce African sun.

Nights can get cool, especially in winter, but for the most part summer clothes are more than adequate to handle Kenya's sunny climate. The noth and north east parts of the country gets very dry, and the rainy season is between April and June, with moderate rains falling between October and December.

Annual Wildebeest Migration

The Masai Mara is probably one of the best known wildlife habitats in Africa, due to the annual blue wildebeest migration.

Each year between the months of June and September, millions of these bovines brave long distances, extreme danger in the form of hungry carnivores, raging rivers, hunger, heat and thirst to move towards areas where they can find forage during the dry season.

It is speculated that up to 250 000 die during each migration. The sight of so many large bovines on the move will leave you speechless. It is like watching and hearing the earth move as millions of hooves beat against the hard packed earth and hunderds of thousands of raspy wildebeest cries fill the air. You can hear the thunder of their movement from miles away and the huge dustclouds will tell you that you are on your way to witness one of the earth's true spectacles.

You will never forget this experience.

Kenyan National Parks

Amboseli National park - In the Rift Valley Province - Kajido District and it spreads accross the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Kora National Park - in the Coast Province, about 125 kilometers east of Mount Kenya. It was here where George Adamson was murdered by poachers.

Lake Nakuru National Park - near Nakuru Town and situated around Lake Nakuru (Best know for sometimes as many as millions of flamingoes nesting along it's shores).

Mount Kenya National Park - protects the region surrounding Mount Kenya. The national park, together with the forest reserve around Mount Kenya became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Nairobi National Park - the first national park in Kenya, located 7 kilometers (4 miles) south of the centre of Nairobi. Only a fence seperates the park animals from the city. Also one of Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuaries.

Access and Travel in Kenya

Kenya offers some of the better paved road networks south of the Sahara but maintenance is often neglected. Air transport is always preferable, but there are also some 25 000 minibuses (called matatus) to choose from which makes up the bulk of the public transport system. So if you want to try a different style of travelling this is it!

Two routes in the Trans-African Highway pass through Kenya: The Lagos-Mombassa Highway and the Cairo-Cape Town Highway. While it is called a highway, our advise is to travel in off-road vehicles as there are uncompleted sections that is best not tried with a normal vehicle.

Kenya offers sufficient airports, with both paved and unpaved runways, to make air travel to all destinations easy.  The largest airport is Komo Kenyatta International in Nairobi, while some international flights go to Moi International in Mombassa. Since 2008 Kisumu Airport is also an internatiol airport.
