PRETORIA
In 1855, Marthinus Pretorius who donated land belonging to his father, Andries Pretorius, founded Pretoria – named after Pretorius. Andries Pretorius had become a national hero after his victory over the Zulus in the Battle of Blood River in 1838. He took part in the negotiations at the Sand River Convention (1852), in which Britain granted the independence of the Transvaal, after which it became known as the capital of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (South African Republic) on 1 May 1860. Considered a big, friendly farming community, Pretoria is recently accredited to be the best city in the world to live in, due to its wonderful climate. The city has a moderately dry subtropical climate, with long hot and rainy summers and short cool and dry winters. Day temperatures in summer range from 28 to 30 degrees and in winter, it ranges from 18 to 23 degrees, which is rather high considering that its altitude is about 4000 feet, or 1350 meters above sea level. Pretoria is built in a sheltered valley position, which acts as a heat trap and cuts it off from cool southerly and southeasterly winds for much of the year. Rainfalls occurs in summer (October to April), with dry conditions during the winter months. Snowfall is an extremely rare event, occurring once or twice in a century. PRETORIA CITY TOUR

JOHANNESBURG
Situated just 50 km south of Pretoria, is the city of Johannesburg where gold was discovered at Langlaagte 1886 by two nephews; George Harrison and George Walker. They were on their way to Barberton, near the Kruger Park where gold was discovered earlier. After George Harrison’s horse stumbled over a rock, he discovered the mother load – the richest gold deposit in the world. Johannesburg, with over 10 million trees, has the biggest manmade forest in the world. It has a subtropical climate. Late afternoon thundershowers in the summer months of October to April characterize the city. Johannesburg are usually fairly mild due to the city's high altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, with the average maximum daytime temperature in January of 26 °C, dropping to an average maximum of around 16 °C in June. Snow is a rare occurrence, with snowfall having been experienced in May 1956, August 1962, June 1964, September 1981 and August 2006 (light). JOHANNESBURG CITY TOURHalf Day: 09:00 - 12:30
