Another landlocked African country, surrounded by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe - Botswana, with the unique Okavango Delta in the North as a renowned feature of the country combined with drier, desert regions, offers tremendous opportunities for unequalled game viewing.
To the south lies the Kalahari desert, with it's own array of specially adapted animals on offer to the visitor. Also to the North lies the mighty Chobe river - where huge herds of elephants gather.
A must see is always the Victoria Falls and the mighty Zambezi river on the Zimbabwe side of the country.
The Okavango River floods annually, and submerges large tracts of the Kalahari in Nothern Botswana. Spreading in a wide fan towards Maun, through a myriad of channels, it eventually disappears into the thirsty ground. In this naturally formed delta an astonishing array of ever-changing lagoons, grasslands, and islands are found as the flood waters carve their way through the land.
A safari trip in the Okavango Delta is seen by many visitors as the absolute ultimate African safari. For avid anglers this area offers splendid opportunities. Bird watchers - better remember those binoculars! It is a bird paradise!
European flights usually entrer via Gabarone (GBE) in the South, while Maun (MUB) acts as the accepted gateway to the Okavango Delta. Maun is also accessed regionally. The Northern Chobe region is serviced by Kasane (KAS), and can also be connected by air or road transfer to the Victoria Falls.
The wet season, January - March, sees some of the lodges in the Okavanog close for renovation, and a well earned rest for staff. If rain does not put you off, then this is a great time to visit the country - not all the lodges close!
November and December is when people who are naturally cool tend to come visit, as these two months are HOT.
High season for tourists is during August and September. During these times costs are also considerably more expensive, but the dry season does offer better game viewing opportunities.
From this it should be clear that even planning your trip to Botswana will be interesting!
Botswana will fulfil all your deepest and wildest dreams of an African Safari experience, and you will want to return for more!
